Athletics’ Jarrod Parker To Have Tommy John, Miss 2014 Season

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Jarrod Parker will need Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right pitching elbow and will miss the entire 2014 season.

This will be the second Tommy John surgery for the 25-year-old Parker, who had his first Tommy John surgery performed in 2009 when he was a minor league player.

The Athletics’ scheduled opening day starter, Parker went 12-8 with a 3.97 ERA for the AL West champions last season.

The loss of Parker represents a big blow to the A’s 2014 hopes as they attempt to defend their AL West title.
