Brandon Beachy To See Dr. James Andrews On Monday

Braves right-hander Brandon Beachy and teammate Kris Medlen will visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday and the Braves’ 2014 title hopes could hang in the balance as both pitchers face the possibility of needing Tommy John surgery for a second time.

Medlen left his spring training start on Sunday with what was initially described as a right forearm strain but an MRI subsequently revealed ligament damage in his right elbow, while Beachy left Monday’s spring training start with tightness in his right biceps.

The Braves have resigned themselves to the fact that it is a virtual certainty that Medlen will require a second Tommy John surgery, but are hoping that Beachy might be able to avoid the same fate.

The 27-year-old Beachy underwent his first Tommy John surgery in June 2012 after going 12-8 with a 3.07 ERA for the Braves in 2011-2012 before injuring his elbow.
