Contract Extension Talks Between Indians, Masterson Collapse

The contract extension talks between the Cleveland Indians and starting pitcher Justin Masterson have broken off with the two sides failing to reach an agreement on a new deal.

Masterson’s representatives reportedly wanted a 2-year, $35 million deal or a 3-year, $51 million deal for their client, while the Indians countered with a proposed 2-year deal in the $25-26 million range.

The 29-year-old Masterson went 14-10 with a 3.45 ERA and 195 strikeouts in 193 innings pitched for the Indians last season and will now likely be one of the most sought after free-agent pitchers available during the next offseason.
