Earlier today Dionisio Soldevila of ESPN Deportes reported the Blue Jays had agreed to terms with Ervin Santana on a one-year, $14MM deal. However it appears that was a pre-mature report and that the Blue Jays appear to be in bidding. As of right now the finally teams appear to be the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles. Currently it appears the Orioles offer is in the $13MM + Incentives range and the Blue Jays have offered a $14MM contract.
Earlier it was suggested that he would be making a decision by 5:00 PM but it now appears that there is no exact timetable on his decision. What now is clearer is that Santana is looking for a short term deal in the range of the $14MM qualifying offer extended by the Royals. If there is no timetable, this could open up the bidding to additional teams.
More to come as the Santana saga continues to develop.
