Tigers Sign Miguel Cabrera To Eight-Year, $248 Million Extension

The Detroit Tigers have signed slugger Miguel Cabrera to a record ten-year, $292 million contract commitment that could be worth as much as $352 million over 12 years if options are vested.

The new money in the deal is $248 million over eight years, which is an average annual value of $31 million per year, and the total 10-year commitment is the aforementioned $292 million.

The deal also includes two vesting options at $30 million per year, giving Cabrera the opportunity to make as much as $352 million over the next 12 years.

Cabrera is considered by many to be the best hitter in baseball and the Tigers obviously believe that is true as this deal shatters all previous records for player contracts.
